The subject of this thesis is the so-called "Livre d’Enanchet", the oldest text of Franco-Italian literature, already composed in the first half of 13th century. It was nevertheless overlooked by former critics because of its extraneousness to Epic literature whom most of the other Franco-Italian texts composed in the following century instead belongs. The present study is therefore an attempt to fill the gaps still present in our current historical and cultural picture of the diffusion of French language in several parts of Medieval Italy, with special regard to didactic texts and prose works.
